October Round up

October Highlights

#UofGAutumn

Our campus has been looking particularly lovely this month as we have enjoyed the driest October for 65 years! To showcase our pretty campus, we have been encouraging our community to use #UofGAutumn to post photos of campus. We have been sharing the best ones through our main channels and supplementing with some of our own – including 360 photos. This is a hashtag we have used in previous years and has generated good engagement and lots of lovely photos 😀

Experimenting with video

85% of Facebook videos are viewed without sound, according to Digiday. Looking at our own stats, it’s often over 90%. We have been keen to move away from talking heads videos and make engaging short videos with captions that are geared towards a social media audience. A recent time-lapse video showing the walk from neighboring Kelvingrove Park to UofG, using just a countdown and music, was our most watched facebook video this month with more than 100K views.

Halloween

To mark Halloween, we ran competitions on Facebook and Snapchat. On Snapchat in the week leading up to Halloween we asked our followers to send in snaps of their costumes. We reposted a selection and the one with the most screenshots won (it was Henry VIII and his wives!) We received nearly 300K snap views our Halloween content in a week.
On Facebook we hid emoji ghosts in a lecture theatre and took a 360 photo. The aim of the game was to find all the ghosts and only three eagle eyed people out of nearly 150 spotted all seven ghosts. We have found 360 photos to be popular on our channels and this was no exception as the post has a reach of 57.7K and more than 800 reactions, comments and shares.

Student Vloggers

Earlier this year we put out a call on social media for student vloggers. Students were invited to send in a vlog about student life at UofG and three winners were picked. The vlogger youtube channel has been launched this month and the eager vloggers have been uploading videos which we promote across our channels. They are free to talk about whatever they like and topics have included – Making new friends, life as a PhD student and dressing up as a unicorn on campus!
